Okaloosa County is a county located in northwest Florida, United States. This county, whose seat is Crestview, forms part of the Fort Walton Beach-Crestview-Destin Metropolitan Statistical Area and has an estimated population of 182,172 as of 2005. Okaloosa County was created in June 13, 1915 and was derived from a Choctaw word which means “black water”.

Okaloosa has a total area of 1,082 square miles. It is bordered by Covington County, Alabama to the north; Walton County, Florida to the east; Santa Rosa County, Florida to the west, and; Escambia County, Alabama to the northwest. Okaloosa County is composed of nine incorporated areas and 13 unincorporated places. Incorporated areas include Town of Cinco Bayou; City of Crestview; City of Destin; City of Fort Walton Beach; City of Laurel Hill; City of Mary Esther; City of Niceville; Town of Shalimar, and; City of Valparaiso. Its unincorporated areas include Baker; Blackman; Campton; Deerland; Eglin AFB; Escambia Farms; Garden City; Holt; Lake Lorraine; Milligan; Ocean City; Seminole, and; Wright.
