It is bordered by Echols County, Georgia to the north; Clinch County, Georgia to the northeast; Baker County to the east; Union County to the southeast; Alachua County to the south; Gilchrist County to the southwest; Suwannee County to the west, and; Hamilton County to the northwest. This county is composed of two incorporated areas (the town of Fort White & the City of Lake City) as well as three unincorporated areas (Five Points, Watertown, & Lulu).
