Iowa is a state composed of 99 counties located in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is bordered by Mississippi River on the east, the Missouri River and the Big Sioux River on the west, and the Des Moines River on the south. Its capital is Des Moines which is located in Polk County.

Iowa often called as the “American Heartland”, is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States of America. Its name was derived from the Ioway people, one of the American Indian tribes that occupied the state ever since the European exploration began. The state of Iowa used to be a part of the French colony of the New France. It was later purchased and controlled by the United States in 1803 via Louisiana Purchase. Iowa became a state in 1846 and elected Ansel Briggs as the first governor.

The first inhabitants of Iowa were Mound Builders who were mostly gatherers and hunters living in a glacial landscape. European explorers later set foot in the state sometime in 1673 and began to influence the way of life among American Indians. The arrival of the Europeans started the development and growth of agriculture in Iowa.

Iowa is the country’s leading supplier of corn, soybean and hog products. It is also comes third in terms of total livestock sales. Aside from agricultural products, Iowa also give large numbers of forest products such as hardwood lumber and mineral products like cement, limestone, sand, gravel, gypsum and coal.
