North Carolina is a state located in the southeast region of the United States. It borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east, South Carolina and Georgia to the south, Tennessee to the west and Virginia to the north. It has a total land area of 48,711 sq mi. It became the scene of the Culpepper’s Rebellion in 1677, the Quaker-led Cary Rebellion in 1708 and the Tuscarora Indian war among others.

North Carolina supplies most of the nation’s largest furniture, tobacco, brick and textiles. It also boasts of industries focused in metal working, chemicals and paper. This state also produces large quantities of tobacco, corn, cotton, hay, peanuts and vegetable crops. North Carolina is also a leading producer of mica and lithium.

Tourism also plays an important role in North Carolina’s economy. It provides perfect spots for various sports such as golfing, hunting, skiing and fishing. The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh and its largest city is the Charlotte. This state has an estimated population of 9,222,414 (2008 estimate) and is the 10th most populated state in the US.
