This county which was created in December 4, 1925 is bordered by Columbia County, Florida to the northeast; Alachua County, Florida to the east; Levy County, Florida to the south; Dixie County, Florida to the southwest; Suwannee County, Florida to the northwest, and; Lafayette County, Florida to the northwest. It is composed of two cities (Fanning Springs and Trenton) and a town named Bell.
