Rosemead California

Rosemead is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Nearby communities include Temple City (to the north), El Monte (to the east), South San Gabriel (to the south), and Monterey Park (to the west).

Following the Mexican-American War and the transfer of California sovereignty to the United States, Anglo-American immigration began to flow to the San Gabriel Valley area. Beginning in the mid-19th century, early pioneers settled in the region and among these was Leonard J. Rose and his wife Amanda, who bred and trained horses for a living. Rose established a large ranch which he named “Rose’s Meadow”, later shortened to “Rosemeade” and finally to “Rosemead”, which would become the city’s name. For decades, the community was populated with a large array of small truck farms and chicken and rabbit ranches. By the time of Rosemead’s incorporation in 1959, the area had begun a transformation from quiet pastoral lands to what it is today: a bustling city replete with businesses, industries, shops and lots of people.

A visitor to Rosemead is in the heart of the Los Angeles metropolitan area and has easy access to the full array of Los Angeles attractions, as well as those of Orange County and other areas of Southern California. Within the Rosemead city limits is the Whittier Narrows Golf Course, whose generous greens, wide fairways and well-maintained landscaping attract golfers from around the area. Cultural sites nearby include the American Military Museum. Located in neighboring El Monte’s Heritage Park, the museum features exhibits from all branches of the U.S. armed forces: Army, Navy, Marines and the Air Force. Also in El Monte is the Chinese Cultural Center, established in 1992 and dedicated to the promotion of Chinese culture and knowledge.
Rosemead Airport is one of the vanished former airports which once were spread all throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
