El Cajon California

El Cajon is a California city located in San Diego County. It is situated about 15 miles east of the city of San Diego, to which it is linked by Interstate Highway 8. Incorporated in 1912, the central city area of El Cajon evolved into a much larger incorporated area, coincident with large population spikes occurring after World War II and again between 1970 and 1990. As a General Law City, El Cajon derives legal authority for its city acts from the laws of the State of California as opposed to a city charter. El Cajon is governed by a five-member City Council including an elected Mayor, who serves a four-year term as presiding officer of the City Council and is the city representative at ceremonial functions. Until 1968, the Mayor was a City Council member chosen by the Council to serve a one-year term.

El Cajon is home to Grossmount Community College, Cuyamaca College, San Diego Christian College, and the Southern California Seminary. Also located within the city’s boundaries are Gillespie Field (airport) and Knox House Museum.

Under the Köppen climate classification system, El Cajon straddles areas of Mediterranean climate (CSa) and semi-arid climate (BSh). As a result, it is often described as “arid Mediterranean” and “semi-arid Steppe”. Like most inland areas in Southern California, the climate varies dramatically within a short distance, known as microclimate. El Cajon’s climate has greater extremes compared to coastal San Diego. El Cajon’s climate is warm during summer with mean temperatures averaging 70.1 °F (21.2 °C) or higher and cool during winter with mean temperatures averaging 55.4 °F (13.0 °C) or higher.

The warmest month of the year is August with an average maximum temperature of 88.1 °F (31.2 °C), while the coldest month of the year is December with an average minimum temperature of 40.3 °F (4.6 °C).
