Massachusetts Details

Massachusetts is the most populous of the New England states of the northeast United States. It is bordered on the west by New York, Vermont and New Hampshire on the north, the Atlantic Ocean on the east and Rhode Island and Connecticut on the south.

The name Massachusetts is derived from a Massachusetts tribe of Native Americans and refers to “at or about a great hill”. This state is sometimes referred to as the Capital of New England. It became the 6th member of the confederate on February 6, 1788.

Massachusetts played an important role in the history of the Americans. It was one of the original 13 colonies that fought against British oppression in 1773. It became famous for its intellectual activity for its writers and educators and for its expanding commercial fishing, shipping, and manufacturing interests. This state pioneered the manufacture of textile and shoes.

Its economy is supported by its vast electronics and communications equipment fields, agriculture and tourism. Among its major sources of revenue include dairy and poultry products, nursery and greenhouse produce, vegetables and fruits.

Massachusetts offers a lot of interesting places to see. These include Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Minute Man National Historical Park between Lexington and Concord, and Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth. In Boston there are many places of historical interest, including Old North Church, Old State House, Faneuil Hall, the USS Constitution, and the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum.

The capital of Massachusetts is Boston. This state is also nicknamed Bay State and its people are called Bay Stater.
