Maryland the seventh state to join the United States Constitution, it has the largest median household income of any state gaining $70,545 in a year. The state has two nicknames mainly the Old Line State and the Free State. It is considered to be and Old line State because of its courageous participation in the Revolutionary War battles in December 1775. It is the home of saviors of the Continental Army and the cause of independence lead by George Washington during the American Revolution. It is also nicknamed “Free State” because it is a traitor to the Confederation refusing to pass a state enforcement. Maryland is also the hub of life science biotechnology firms with over 350 facilities and agencies are based throughout homeland.

Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon explored the Maryland’s northern boundary line in 1763 until it ceded to form the District of Columbia, a federal district that was established by congressional acts of 1790 and 1791 under George Washington. In 1814, the British Empire attempts to capture Baltimore which is the bombardment of the Fort Mchenry, Maryland becomes a slave state but remained in the Union until Marylanders fought both sides and a lot of families were divided during the war. To try to gain more settlers, Maryland used the headright system, a legal grant of land to settlers which was originated in Jamestown. The Maryland government awarded land to people who transported colonist to Maryland.

Today Maryland produces more seafood, oysters, crabs, clams, and fishes because it is has one of the longest waterfronts of any state mainly the Chesapeake Bay. Manufacturing industries include chemicals, computer and electronic products, food products, transportation equipment, and primary metals.

There are many main sights and attractions in Maryland that can be found in Baltimore in the central downtown district, which is divided into a number of notable areas such as the Camden Yards, the Inner Harbor, and also the West Side.
